Battery ground saws

EV's have SIGNIFIGANT problems in both range (>25%) and recharging times in cold weather !
I assume battery equipment, saws, etc, will have similar, or more, deficiencies ?

My DeWalt charging unit (DCB115) actually has a warning light to indicate that it is too COLD/HOT to properly charge the battery pack.

The stock chain is reduced kickback, semi chisel and bore cuts for shit so I didn't bother boring the tree. Normally I would have bored to get a more appropriate hinge thickness. I'm going to be trying some full chisel, no reduced kickback chain soon I hope. The front of my hinge has a little holiday in the middle from dogging the nose in a bit deeper than I should have but this isn't a video about that The stumps at the end were left over from previously felled trees (also done with batteries). I had skipped them to avoid dulling the chain. They worked well to finish off these batteries.

I don't have a go pro so just took separate videos and spliced em together to make this. Stumping the big tree took by far the most juice. This was a dead but still solid red oak. Hard wood.

I had an issue with the husky 540I top handle on two of the real hot humid days here, full battery but saw would keep triggering the overload, grabbed the milwaukee top handle and it ran without issue. I remember when the top handle milwaukees first came out there was reports of melted batteries on extended run times, I know the utility here is handing them out to linemen and they’re running them without issue from what I’ve heard.

Interesting. I've used a rear handle Husq 540i through the last two summers here, including 100+ heat indices, with no problems. This is with both the BLi300 and BLi200x batteries.

Do you keep the saw in the shade? A battery sitting in full sun for an hour two on a hot day, any brand, is probably going to struggle. A little shade would make a huge difference.

On a side note, when is hot out, setting up a sun- reflective pop-up canopy or purpose-built stretchy shade cloth for people and equipment can be worthwhile. Pretty quick and easy.

A mister on a garden hose cools an area considerably and lessens fire-risk during high-risk weather.
