Battery ground saws

No way am I using a battery saw larger that my top handles. I like power and torque. I am a ported saw man. For pruning ok. But never anything bigger. It will never be a reality. Plus the mining of lithium is suspect. Destroys groundwater in the third world. Plus getting rid of dead batteries is complex. Noise folk noise.

Electric has the edge on torque. "Horsepower'' and chain speed is owned by the gassers. I have 2 ported saws with more to come. No battery saws at all in the arsenal.

I'd like a top handled one but only for indoor use at the wood furnace. For those pesky pieces that are a bit to long....LOL.

I hear you on torque. I would love to see those toys come play with my smallest ported saw. A 261 beast with 20” light bar. 3/8th .050 full comp. That shit making mince outta wood. It hungry.

My smallest ported is a 80cc 7900 Dolmar. Love that sucka. My other is a 2100CD Hooskie. I call her "Big Hussie."
99cc with finger ports and a velocity stack. Haven't put her in wood yet. She sits.

No ported top handle? I thought for sure you'd have a ported topper.

You like power and torque.... but you mention a 261 with a 20" bar. If we're just talking typical cut speed, the Milwaukee will cut faster than a ported 261, but it'll weigh 1/3 more, ~15lb vs ~20lb.

We keep 3 gas saws on the truck, two 500i and a 201, all ported by XS. For typical cutting from the lift, I'll take the dual battery Milwaukee for a 20" bar for convienence while being "fast enough".

Hope you tip your whale-oil lamp streetlight igniter every Christmas too!

I'm just playing here. I won't argue the perils of lithium mining, or coal, or the extraction, refining and pollutant output of the fossil fuels used to run your ported saws either.

Battery is another tool that has pros and cons. They fit the bill for some folks. I don't believe they are meant to replace gas entirely but they have their place.

Would have to see that to believe it. I deal with very hard wood. Typically battery struggles with it compared to eqivalent gasser. You can dog any gasser compared to the battery. Top handles I am talking. That dual battery milwaulkee just seems piggy. I will pick one up and feel it's vibe this summer in the UK when I visit honey bros while on vacay. I am an open minded man. But doubt I will like it.

Totally agree, just playing devil’s advocate. I like my battery top handles. IMG_0008.jpeg

I’ve shared my dislike for the overpriced STIHL 300 here on the TB before. However, the more I run the 220 rear handle, the more I like it as a brush and chipper saw. My son likes the 220T, but admits it is heavy and awkward.

I’ve heard great things about all the Milwaukee saws, but have yet to run one.

We run the rear handle Husky electric as one of our ground saw options. Works great. The batteries definitely have less power in really cold temps but that isn’t a huge problem most of the time. Just like any smaller saw, my only issue with them is people not wanting to switch out to an appropriately sized saw when they are bucking wood or larger pieces. They are great for certain things but you have to know their limitations.
