Basking Ridge Holy Oak

Great article- when I first moved to Georgia (army brat :)) we looked for a great place to vacation. We found a place in South Carolina called Hunting Island. Went there every year from age 8 till I was 34. The first year, we found this Grand Ol' Live Oak, climbed it and took pictures (me,Mom,Dad and Sis). Every year we would find that tree.....it kinda became a landmark for us. As time went on, the beach eroded more and more every year. Cabins washed into the ocean and finally the saltwater took it's toll and the Grand Ol' Live Oak fell ill. In the short time of a year, it had died, but the skeleton of a once beautiful tree remained. In 2010, I took a pic of that tree with two of my three daughters ( one wasn't born yet) and my two nieces on the tree. The sun was setting behind and my Dad was walking into the ocean in the background. Dad passed away on 2013. That picture hangs on my Mom's wall to this day-it's one of the most poignant definitions of life that I have ever seen.
