Barefoot tree killer

Its a good video to watch. just goes to show what isint NEEDED to climb a tree. As a younger climber myself i have seen it first hand, where newer climbers are climbing the rope as opposed to the tree. it takes an enlightening of sorts to finally make the transition of having your rope be the primary means of support to being able to climb with the tre itself and have the rope as supplemental support when making a long limb walk, or going for a swing to another leader. Older climbers might not have had this transition as climbing was more cowboy-esque back in the day, but with modern standards and such, it takes that little leap of faith to move from only trusting your rope to having knowlege in how to truly "climb the tree."

Hmmmm, interesting comment. We climb both, tree and rope. Climbing is merely a means to an end, not the end in itself. The rope provides the third point of contact so our hands, both of them, are free to do the actual work. Even with our rope we are trusting the tree since it's our anchor point.

It's taken much more than a few to lead to the regulations we have governing our work. History has proven that leaving it in the hands of the business owners to take care of all stakeholders, (i.e., employees, clients, the community in which it plies it's trade and, the investors) has not resulted in improving conditions. The exact opposite occurs.

Interesting perspective on history. Not the one that I experienced though.

My climbing history is like this:

~~~Free climbing as a kid...like anyone. Only remember falling out once and knocking the wind out of me, thought I was dieing.
~~~Spurs, harness and lanyard
~~~Spurs, harness, lanyard and three strand manila rope [Mostly climbing the tree at this point. The rope was used more like a long lanyard]
~~~Harness, lanyard, rope...Started really climbing the tree then. A bit of time I climbed the rope. Body thrusting and the start of footlocking.
~~~Ahhhh...the Modern Climber...figured out SRT!!! Now I was climbing the rope and less climbing the tree. Climbing got soooo much easier!
I can say that if I hadn't started on my journey of discovery on SRT 20+ years ago my body wouldn't be in such good shape. Getting off spikes made things better...getting on SRT made climbing as easy at it could be.
I started out thinking that I was going to watch some yahoo. But no. This guy is very skilled. he is extremely comfortable in the tree and has likely climbed this way his whole life. MAKE him wear a harness and ropes the whole time and he would likely have a major accident within 3 months I bet.
The guy is good and should be respected.
it's probably at least the third time he's trimmed that tree like that too. Nice holding fibers in that tree.
Such a boss. Not sure why he was wearing that full body harness. Maybe so when he eventually plummets to his death, it'll be easier to carry his lifeless body around.
He was using it as a giant chainsaw lanyard. The harness distributed the weight of the chainsaw relatively evenly over his whole body. Probably with the shoulder straps catching a little bit of a higher percentage. The dorsal attachment between the shoulder blades concentrates the pulling force of the weight of the chainsaw up around his chest, instead of at his hips.
