barefoot shoes for climbing?

How much of an arch support or raised heel (drop) do your shoes have? I found that after going barefoot for a couple of summers I could not stand those features and got rid of all my old shoes. Now I wear shoes with flat soles.
I have very pronounced arches. So has never worried me. I like the support. Boots are very personal though. That is why I should not have commented on this thread, I slipped. I know what I like, and others have to find their way. I spend a lot of money on pants and boots. All non chainsaw. I dislike chainsaw protection.

I ended up only really using them a couple of times climbing, and felt like I was being a bit rougher on them than they would tolerate well, but I did really love wearing them in trees. I have since taken them hiking in some rough ass terrain, and they actually held up really well. I am now feeling like I have gotten sufficient value out of them, so I will try them again soon, but I have been doing a lot of falling lately in Paradise.

I have actually started climbing actually barefoot wirh my daughter who can't even concieve of the notion of doing it with any kind of shoes on, and I really dig it.

Thanks. I'm wondering if the leather is heavy enough to protect a foot from the foot ascender.

I didn't mind it, but it was a lot less padding than the chainsaw boots I usually wear. I don't have almost any time with anything in between, so it's hard to say. Never even used a foot ascender when I climbed in Danners.
