Bandit Chipper

Hey everyone

Looking to see if there is any feedback, or suggestions on engine types on a quite complicated sanario...

Bought a bandit 255 with ford 6.2 gas engine in the fall of 2020. The engine after 400 hrs ended up blowing up this august, after our local bandit dealer reviewed it, they sent to a third party who deals with that engine. there had been various issues within the programming and engine and deemed it not under warantee...

After months of back and forth I finally just told the third party ford contractor to replace the engine. After them trying to order, the same company that refused warantee, deemed the engine obsolete and is no longer available.

1. does this seem fishy to anyone?

2. Anyone know of a engine that can be replace this?

"There had been various issues with programming and engine and deemed it not under warrenty"

Could you entertain with more information

Sounds very fishy , was there a specific reason why it blew up? What broke in it ? They must have a valid reason not to honor the warranty, or at least say they do.

I wouldn't be surprised if the programming issue was related to how the auto feed system loads and unloads the engine at max governed RPM.

Just guessing and am as curious as the rest of you.

Unless they’re starting to plug in the new Ford 7.3L or 6.8L, I’m not sure why they would say the 6.2 is unavailable?

Did this third party deem it not under warranty or that come from Bandit? I'd lean harder on Bandit. You should not have to talk to the 3rd party at all if you bought it from Bandit...even if they sent it away for further diagnosis, it is still their machine. Find another Bandit dealer if your local can't deal with it. An engine swap shouldn't be real complicated for a competent shop, right?

Thanks for the feedbacks.....

So the engine timing chain has been stretched, along with scoring on the chank shaft.

They determined that the engine had been overheared and run out of oil, resulting in these issues. Deeming them "my fault " I do understand that if i just neglected to do all the regular maintenance of the machine...
However since brand new, I have had overheating issues, feed sencor issues, the stupid trailer trailer connector for the knife hatch replaced 3 times... Very few of these were resolved by the company represtenting Bandit. THey came up and replace the trailer switch twice, and thats it. Didnt even answer my email on the overheating issue.

I would be let to believe that constant overheading of a engine would lead to these results...

I would also think that just like my truck, a brand new engine woud not let it get to the point of running until a catostrophic event occured. Did a sencor fail and let the engine keep running until it heated this much? I so that should be a warrentee issue.

I did not bring the chipper to the 3rd party, the company representing bandit did

I think they are all just trying to play the non responsibiltiy road.

Sure sounds that way.

I understand that you didn't bring to 3rd party. My issue would be "why can't the dealer figure this out?".

I'd contact Bandit directly (corporate office, not through dealer). Armed with maintenance history, history of problems, and copies of the unreturned emails about overheating.

Did dealer look at the overheating issue earlier? If so, they missed it. They would seem to be demonstrating their incompetence by now sending the machine to a 3rd party. Did they initially send it to same 3rd party who has it now? If so, that 3rd party is in CYA mode as they missed it so they are blaming it on you. Why couldn't the dealer diagnose that if they did send it away? Ask Bandit if they are going to stand on their name or back a 3rd party who wasn't able to diagnose a recurring issue.
