A week ago we noticed some small backfire noises while the chipper was at high idle. I added dry gas and changed the fuel filter but it hasn't improved the situation. It's a 2019 with a 5.7L GM gas engine. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to post a video so you can hear what it was doing today. I'm not a videographer so try not to get dizzy.

I’ve read a lot on issues on gas chippers with the distributor cap ,rotor, and wires but I have no experience just have read a few different times

Exactly what Venas said, been there with mine, it’ll be the cap and rotors, change the plugs and wires while your at it, make sure they set the timing right ours was out 11 degrees. Make sure they hook up their laptop to check the timing. Easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing.

You are one of the stories I read about but not the only one

I'm sorry to report that replacing those parts did not solve the problem. When we idled the chipper up on Thursday it started misfiring again. I'm hauling it up to the dealership tomorrow. I left the job with a 1/4 load of chips and a pile of brush in the truck :(

Sorry
Good luck

Yep it’ll be the timings off just like I said, they'll have to reset it, mine was off 11 degrees.

I drove up to the dealership on Monday morning. They figured out that the distributor was bad. The mechanic showed me the old one and explained that the rotor is press on to the top of the shaft and plastic groves hold it in place, which had worn because of the vibration. The new Carquest distributor has metal on metal in this critical area. I drove and bought the part myself to make sure the repair actually happened that day. Thank you Advance auto parts, Napa did not have it. The engine is running smooth again.
Yesterday the starter began acting up again. Thankfully I had ordered a new starter a week ago and had it on hand. Kyle and I installed it after work today and it's working like a champ. 303 hours on this machine now.
