Awesome day at work!

Had a great day at work today. First off, very nice weather. A great break from the heat we've been having the past few weeks!! Second, I got my first use of a chainsaw in a tree. It wasn't that far up (Maybe 20ft to 30ft), in a very open tree, with Dad right behind me, showing me what to do. Just one quick cut and the stob was gone. I didn't make the final cut, just got to cut of a section of it. Then Dad cut the rest. Also cut some small trees own on the ground also. Getting better with the notches!! Just need to learn not to cut them some deep. I think I was going a bit more than 1/3 in, just a tad to deep.

I was also the rigging man for part of a removal we did at the same house. It's a HUGE!!! Silver Maple, over 100 years old, and a DBH of at least 7 or 8 ft. This is a BIG tree at the base. TONS of wood. We removed a bunch of large branches, including a very large one that was starting to rot hanging over his house. The tree is scheduled for removal in the fall, but after seeing how rotted some of the large pieces we removed were, he may choose to move up the removal date. Going to a fun tree!!! Pics to come later.

Sounds like you're really getting bit by the bug!! Congrats on your first in tree cut. Take it slow and you'll do just fine!

As for your notches, see if your Dad will stand up a few 20" or so logs for you to practice putting notches into. You should be able to fit 3 open face notches in a 3-4' log.

Thanks BB. Thursday was mostly a fun job day. It was for a friend that does work for us, so we traded some work and he payed the difference. It's usually on these fun job days where Dad will teach me something new, like the in tree climbing with chain saw.

Thanks for the notch tip also. It's been raining almost every weekend it seems, so we haven't had a lot of time to go out and practice. Thanks again for the tip!

Don't know if were going now, I was planning on taking a bunch of classes, but when Mom's old car died, we had to dip into the ISA Expo fund to help pay for a new one. Were undecided on if were going or not, but I would love to!! Really want to hear Sillet talk and take some other classes.

Thanks Norm. I'm working on figuring out the cost of it all right now. I'm going to call a arborist buddy that might will hopefully be able to get us passes for the trade show and some classes. he's the regional president or something like that. He did the same thing for us a few years back, so I'm going to call and check. Hopefully we'll make it there!!
