ASCENDED, CROLL, PANTIN

i know there has been many threads on this with a lot of talk of what works and what doesn't, but can some of you put some PICTURES up of your system you use for ascending.

Thanks TB

What is this phobia about 'too gear intensive' ?

Were sitting here using a very gear intensive communication system, living in gear intensive houses driving gear intensive vehicles. Were not writing letters, living in tents nor riding horses to work.

Chest harness with a croll, left foot Pantin and a secret weapon (tied with an VT) with a DRT system which is advanced while ascending.
Is that too gear intensive? I won't post a pic if it is.

C'mon, Norm, ya gotta show a pic, now, even if you have to take one. I've been wanting to try that for some time and would love to see your rig!!!

That's pretty much the same set up I use. It gives you the option to unclip one biner and be in decent mode. Srt usually requires change over that can take a while even with someone who is trained and efficient in the change over. The DRT system you are advancing gives the option to escape if need be.

I can also get my setup out and take a few pics too. I've tried to get things compact and multi use so I'm not carrying wasted weight.

Define harrdware Sam,ascender, croll and patin is pretty basic bro maybe a couple biners. I use a variation of the frog walker system just slim down. I alsoo sometimes use my pinto rig thru a prussic loop above my setup so I can DDrt at any time.Goood luck Sam.

i ddrt most all the time. line clearance means production, so i don't spend a lot of time looking for limbs. an easy crotch w/ others in throwing distance is fine. fast and effective, one pantin, one hand ascender and one micro pulley.you can be up the tree and working before these other guys gets their rope tied off.

I couldn't agree more Tom. I've been using the frog walker SRT system for around 4 years now and won't ever go back to footlocking.

i use a similar version of that. mine is right hand ascender and foot loop, hitch and F8 soon rope wrench

on center saddle D ring, then a right foot pantin. easy peasy.
the nice part about using a rope wrench or F8 on your saddle is you can descend at any time while ascending. the F8 or rope wrench system allows to start working right off the system. all you have to do is take off the hand ascender and kick off the pantin then your good to go. i find the biggest problem with allot of SRT systems is they are uni directional systems meaning it can only go up. the frog walker system requires a change over that can be challenging for people starting out with SRT like me.

Here's a pic from fall 2010 I found.
SRT line (200' Towerline) is anchored to a small porty, backed up with an HRC prusik.
Climbin line is Tachyon. SW is hitched on with a VT.
Left foot Petzl Pantin is on my left foot. Chest harness with a Petzl Croll.

Nice setup Norm. A few questions.

Is the SRT Towerline an 11 mm line and is the VT that you're using tied with a 4 wrap 3 braid configuration?

What is the length on the SW? Do you use a handled ascender to advance the "piggy-back" system as you are ascending?

Thanks

Close-up pic taken today.
Towerline is listed as a 7/16's" diameter on the website.
http://allgearinc.com/AGKM.htm
His dealers will sell 200' lengths of it.
The SW measurement from eye to eye is 31". I made it long enough to hitch onto a doubled rope, when needed (mostly for rescue purposes). I'm usin the TVP 5/16's" product from All Gear.
I use a 5 coil, 3 braid version of the VT on the SRT Towerline.
No other equipment is used (no handled ascender).
NOTE: TVP is a 16 strand hollow braid. I remove 9 strands for the bury to make it slightly smaller in diameter. I find it grabs better with 9 strands removed. I had this version tested and it broke within spec.

I use two different SRT setups for ascending. I will take pictures next time I set them up, or at least I'll try.

One setup is composed of a Sequoia SRT saddle. Croll ascender on my chest, with a prussik cord (i think it's technora), and a Pantin on my foot. The prussik serves as a backup to the Croll. This is my preferred SRT setup and it works well with Lava, Imori, and pretty much any rope you put it in.

Another setup is made up of a Sierra Moreno Ultralight. I use a Petzl Tibloc instead of a chest ascender, only because this saddle isn't really set up for SRT. I use the same prussik cord as that setup above, and the Pantin on my foot. With this saddle, I use HTP red rope- a 7/16" practically static line. Super great, and I'm sure that would work well with my Sequoia too, just haven't put those two together yet. Though this setup isn't perfect, with a few practice climbs, it's really pretty good.
