Armor prus

Hey Codz, I went in to look at their break testing bed a couple of weeks ago and plan to go back next week as well with some stuff to bust up. I thought it would be good to try to use tight eyes on biners or shackles (well above expected break) and ocean hs slings (well above expected break) to get a more accurate idea of break results relevant to actual application, rather than go over those big bollards.

What do you think?

Would be good to tee it up for the same day if ya keen???

PS. i love the avatar!

This is the reply I got from donaghys

Armour-Prus is a class 2 type braid however is unique in its design in the sense that it has a very high break load in the sheath so can share the load.
Depending on the application it is possible to use a class 1 type splice where the jacket and core are sharing the load.
We do know of some Arborists who choose to do a modified class 1 type splice which has a shorten tail and tapered sheath which goes back through the braid at the neck of the splice which can also be whipped.
The major advantage you get with Armour-Prus is the extremely high wear resistance and extended life of the braid you get from the jacket.
It would not be our recommendation to expose the core as Spectra has a low melt point.
Under the circumstance where you maybe quickly descending or any instance where the core would be subject to high friction and temp, you then run the risk of melting the Spectra core when exposed and inturn shortening the life of the rope and its integrity.
The advantage you get from having Spectra in the core is its light weight and high strength.
Having said this, it is best to use a splice that best suits the application which should be determined by the end user.
As the manufacturer we can only provide suggestions on what splice best suits the product as a whole i.e Class 2 In the instance where a prussic knot is tied you are always going to getting much better strength out of a splice, no matter which splice you choose to use.

I like that response. To me it says be a sensible adult and make up your own mind based on the scenario you are going to use it in.. Being treated like a big kid makes me happy. :D
