Are you smarter than a politician?

That was a pretty good quiz. 81% here. After seeing the averages of the politicians, the dim view I have of our elected "leaders" is fading even more.

90.1

Missed three:

#8 Regarding what Roosevelt threatend to the supreme court--took a S.W.A.G.

#13 re Sorates and Plato's thoughts--had no clue

#30 Fiscal Policy--Apparently I would do something different than they would.

Oak,

Do you mean the "People's Republic of Vermont?"

There is very little "History" taught here but lots of "historical interpretation!"

We do have a lot of historical sites though from the revolution, pre-revolution, War of 1812 and the Civil War. Not many folks are aware of these places though.

Here is a little tidbit most Americans don't know, Benedict Arnold was actually a Revolutionary War HERO.

He led the American Navy during the Battle of Valcour Island in an action that delayed the British long enough for the Brits to return to Montreal for the Winter.

Arnold's actions allowed the Continental Army to regroup and ultimately win the war.

Arnold can arguably be credited with turning the tide of the Revolution against the British.

His gunboat "Philadelphia" was raised from the lake and is now at the Smithsonian. A replica of the Philadelphia was built and sails Lake Champlain today.

But alas, not much of this type of info is actually taught in our schools.

Texas history is mandatory in the public schools here, but it's a cleaned and revised version of the actual events.

It's sad that revisionists have had the political and economic power to change our past to a more friendly version to their liking and agendas. Just as sad has been the failure to maintain the Interpretive aspects and infrastructures of our parks, historical and otherwise. Selling off real estate from our history and allowing Disneyworld and General Motors to reconstruct events that fit in with a kid-friendly (re: family spending on junk) venue that means Mickey Mouse wears an infantry uniform for a Pocahontas' version of Bull Run or Pickett's Charge..."G" rated so no bloodshed or actual "losers", 'cause competition is so unfair.

I am anxiously awating how Barney the Purple Dinosaur will act-out the part of John Wayne Gacy's cannibalistic children-as-main-course living history park and actual house where he buried dozens of corpses under the floorboards!

Just today they released from the National Archives more than 200 additional hours of Richard Nixon's phone calls to his party minions that history teachers, journalists, and dissenters were enemies of America and should always be treated as such. So now we have a Nixon Presidential Library that I guarantee is in better physical shape than the Yellowstone Grand Resort Hotel, and it honors nothing but a criminal and traitor to the American way.

Go figure!

Isn't it interesting how the history that we are taught usually spurs an interest in history itself, thereby often leading us to learning the real history and questioning what we where taught in the first place?

Does that make any sense to anyone other then me??

Anyway, it's always interesting to see the look on people's faces when you say that Plymouth was not the first settlement established in America, or that the Emancipation Proclamation really didn't free the slaves.

Hey Tom, got "You answered 25 out of 33 correctly — 75.76 %

Average score for this quiz during December: 75.1%
Average score: 75.1%"
Not bad for an ignorant Norwegian that have only been to the states once.

I guess this means I´m too smart to be elected...
