are there grants for small businesses...

there are grants out there for agriculture---tree farms etc. there very well may be others, i do know of a place called score--- and they help small businesses find backing, there services are free. great org. if you go on the web just type in capitals score

I know for sure that grants for job training is huge right now. I just got a grant through DOL to start an Arboriculture training program with the charter high school I work with. It is not a ton of money but enough to get us started. Of course the organization that I work for is a 501C3.
Urban Forestry is a huge buzz word right now in the green jobs world and the green jobs world is where most of this money is being funneled. If you can come up with a program that trains and possibly creates jobs the $$$ is out there.
Unfortunately for the small businesses owner not having work does not create jobs and if work is tight you are not training so it is a catch 22.
It might be possible if you were not only training but also creating jobs.

The middle class is taking a huge hit right now and there is very little help in sight.
So much for Hope!!
Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss.

Be careful taking government money. You don't know what they will take in return.

What they will take in return is a bogus certification that I print up as fast as I can make em!!!
I am working with my local ISA chapter to make sure this isn't the case.
Oversight is not a strong point in government right now. If that it not obvious I dont know what is.
This thread and the insurance thread that is going are hand in hand. Throwing $$$ at a problem is not a solution it is a band aid.

OK! Sorry. I am 4 beers into the first day I have seen the sun shine in three weeks. Understandable No?
I live in a world of grants. The current administration is throwing money around like nobodies biz. Most grants require very strict quarterly reporting. The newest job training grants I have seen coming out require reporting that is very loose. The reporting on the DOL grant our school has just received simply requires an in house certification. This to me is B. S. Anyone who is awarded these grants can make there own standards on anything they are teaching.
These jobs training grants on a certain level are just saying "Look at us, we are doing something". And in reality there is very little happening.
Without jobs, training is useless.
Without oversight on training, Industry standards are useless.
Dont know if this helps.

Seems like just more wasteful spending.

I am with you 6t56. It is wasteful spending. I am all about disclosure. I will re post with the details of the grant my organization was awarded in a few days and what I plan on doing with it.
Jobs!!!!!!!
I can train people all day long and it doesn't matter if there is no work for the trainee.
This money would be better spent on small biz.
The fact of the matter is oversight on federal $$$ is all about saying "Hey! Were doing something" and the reality is that nothing is happening at all.
Without jobs, training is useless.

Sorry Jody I dont know of any grants for small businesses and I wish that was where the money was going.
