Archival beauties

Really awesome pictures Sohner. Love the 4 digit phone number on the "tree truck". Thanks for posting all these photos. (Don't bother chopping any wood, looks like Pinky's coming home with a load!)

AWESOME Thread Sohner!! I love pictures of old tree trucks! These are the best I've seen since the old book "Tree Care". As a Jeeper I also enjoyed the picture of the WWII Willys MB(it took me until 2007 to find and aquire my 1945 USMC MB).

They come in all shapes and sizes . The contract at the time was to wash insulators. Look out for the wires.
The technique to get the truck to stop was to squirt the cab of the truck with a little juice to let the driver stop and let the tower lower below the wires. Primitive communication but it worked.

After the insulator washing came the Slo-Grow program. Oh my! Cell division...

Great photos!
Thanks for fixing that last one.

Try again it uploaded this time.

Before we had crane rigs we had winch trucks. I can still remember the smell of the 90 weight gear box oil that splattered on the exhaust and would stink up the cab. Just a minor leak. The mechanics did all they could to keep these beau's running. If it wasn't one thing it was another. Served their time on the front lines and back on the home front. Dual purpose outfits...

Love those snub nose GMC's cool pics thanks for sharing.
Ostvig tree up here in MN has some old pics from the 30's of their climbers wearing ties in the trees!

Wow, I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before! I have to start surfing the Buzz site more closely.

Thank you Robert for sharing this bit of history with us. Really great photos.

So many of us are so proud of the heritage and history of our profession, that we long to see more.

There are so many books and photos out there of old time logging but so little about the men who worked in the tree care industry. I wish that there was more.
