Arborcide

If we're introducing a new word to the justice system regarding trees should make sure it's spelled right. I have no authority on spelling (as previosly observed on treebuzz) but I have a feeling it should be arboricide rather than arborcide. Like homicide.

alot of folks pronounce it Arborculture.

That's the way I spell it too

We don't say parl-ee-ament for 'parliament. Two camps, I'm in the " _gnore the I" camp

Me too. Slows down the conversation and delays getting to the point. Hard enough when you prefix the "International Society of" to it.

After all, we drop the "p" in pneumatic, though in its Greek root "pneuma" (air, spirit) you pronounce it. Why not an "I" here and there?

It's the 'merican way!

Tom's right about Al Shigo who always dropped the "i" in arboriculture, and he did use the "parliament" example. I took him to task on that, that the more appropriate comparison is to "horticulture". Would anyone drop the "i" there?

Small points to be sure. I'd keep the "i" in Arboricide, (models of homicide, fratricide, regicide, etc.)
Then again, my usage probably doesn't bear too close an examination. I say "symplastic" and "apoplastic" when they likely should be "symplasmatic" and "apoplasmatic".
