Anyone notice an increase in scam leads / calls / messages recently?

I guess sometimes the wealthier neighborhoods or clients are the ones where they may want to negotiate the price down or think you’re charging too high. Oh well what you gonna do.

You ever find when you send an estimate and then if you try following up after not hearing back for a while the people just don’t respond no matter what you do? I’m always appreciative if someone does respond or reach out even if to tell me they aren’t doing the work or hired someone else.
I find the penny pinching wealthier clients tend to call out the most qualified for a ‘free quote’, and all it really boils down to is writing the spec’s for the lowest bidder.

I can't stand when people don't follow up. So damn rude, just acknowledge the free quote! Yay or nay, so easy.

I feel like in situations like that where they don’t respond to your follow up email or phone call it can sometimes be hard not to take it personally or start questioning yourself wondering if you did something wrong, etc. Especially if you know that if the roles were reversed you’d give someone the courtesy of a response. I know for me personally I’ve sometimes found myself thinking / feeling that way.

But I guess a certain amount of indifference and not getting overly invested emotionally about that kind of thing is necessary to preserve your mental health and keep it from becoming so consuming that it distracts you from other things.

I also try to remember that there are some really friendly and nice people out there so don’t paint the entire canvas gray when there’s still sunshine and blue skies.

I completely agree. I can have 100 positive interactions followed by one bad one and just get fixated on the bad one to an incredibly disproportionate degree! Trying to change that for sure.

To the main topic of the post, yes. I have also been inundated with calls, texts and emails at an increasing rate over the years. People who want to buy the business, loan me 720K today, still seo people calling somehow, etc etc. It's crazy. Oh and the scammers, "hello, I have tree at address, can you send me please quote for removal now?"

Charging for site visits, at least ones that don't convert to work, will keep penny pinches away from qualified providers.

My flip phone does not get texts, my brother wants me to get into texting as he's recovering from mouth cancer. Probably those thinking to text me from a Craigslist ad or Google listing may think they are getting through, but I don't get those. I'm surprised there isn't something worked into the system to know whether or not the message was delivered. At least I'm not getting scam texts.

I haven't gotten anything scam-wise, but in the 'work flow' thread people are pretty much all saying work is down, and I feel like lean times often lead to an increase in scams. Just a theory. That or your phone number just got into some scammers system and you are getting an uptick from that.
do you have a link to the 'work flow' thread?
