Anyone done a Grapple/Chipper Truck Combo?

Dave- Winn keeps his stuff immaculate. I've looked at that log truck (2007 Int) I believe it has a Cat motor. It is beautiful. I think being able to chip into your log truck helps you bang out that last job without dumping. I could see us using it alot. Good luck.

I thought the idea was great when i first saw it years ago...haven't seen much advertising for it since the idea came out. I thought they quit making it.

I think that Royal builds a great truck but they charge too much for a used chassis. That truck in the pic is like $110,000 and the chassis has over 140K miles on it.

The company I work for now owns the White JMAC Freightliner on precision tree's website and I run it. Truck is amazing. They are still being made and Jeff the owner of JMAC is fantastic to work with.

Well then...if numerous people think they're not being made anymore; and the truck is all that...I would increase the budget spent on advertising! Got any demo units in northern ohio?

This is the perfect thread!! I have been OBSESSED with trucks lately trying to figure out what the heck my next piece should be!! ? We currently run a royal truck body cab over with a crane that we mounted. And Atlas 10mt with 50' hydraulic reach and 2 manual pull outs w a winch... This is my second knuckle crane truck..We want to build something bigger say 30-40 mt ton w about 90-100' of reach...The trouble is the bigger the truck the further from the work it has to stay...

FYI, Royal Truck should be avoided at all costs. Not a good company to deal with at all. The stuff they do to a truck is unreal. We have a first hand account of it, and a good friend had a buddy that worked for them that told us some horror stories. Our chip truck had a bondoed hood, needed a new engine less than a month after we bought it. The wiring was all screwed to hell. I've heard they roll back odometers, bondo over any damage and don't inform the customer, nor do they service the chassis before putting it up for sale. Stay very far away.

From what I understand, JMAC is trying to simplify the building so they can roll trucks out faster. I know he has big plans for next year and they expect to get more on the road. I'll look into the demo thing for you craneguy

If you look close in some of the pictures, theres a tarp built into the body near the cab guard that slides out in rails on each side at the top. We chip into it with a 1990xp and it holds the chips in great.

I like it because if were only taking down one or two full sized trees, I chip the tops into the body, roll the tarp back up, flatten the chips around with the loader and then load the wood on top of the chips.

As far as price, I think the two used ones that have been in tree trader at some point in the past few months were in the 150s or 160s.

that is a great design. I bet we all end running something like that in the future. is there i issue with weigh? I can imagine you could end up really heavy with one of these units.

Arborman- I usually unload with the grapple. Ill start taking out the biggest pieces and when theres just small chunks and debris left I'll dump. Nine times out of ten where I'm dropping wood requires stacking, whether its at our yard or the wood recycling places...they dont want big dragged out piles around here.

I dont know if its slower than a Prentice or not. I can tell you it goes as fast as I'd ever want it to. The capacity is fantastic, it still surprises me what it will pick up sometimes.

Treehive- No issues with weight. The tare weight is about 37k, but I'll take it anywhere it'll fit and use mats when necessary. Its registered as a regular triaxle here in CT which is 73,500 I believe.
