Anybody here know stuff about airsoft?

Junior bagged straight A's for the year again and he wants an airsoft AEG... so I'm buying him one, a midrange M4 replica by G&G. And since I can't let him have a toy like that without having one myself, I'm thinking about an M14 type (my preferred service weapon) made by UTG. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it other than plink in the back yard and terrorize all the bunnies.

My question is about BBs. I'm insisting on biodegradable but there's mixed reviews on quality and accuracy in an AEG. Anybody have experience with biodegradable BBs? Price isn't a factor so much as accuracy and biodegradability.

It's down to these two types unless somebody has a better choice.

He's the most solid individual I've ever known... it's inexplicable.

Ummm. What about me? I'm very solid.

Tell your boy he is A-OK in my book, too.

And don't get him a BB gun, he'll shoot his eye out!

The idea is that he shoots OTHER kid's eyes out.

That's the thing with the bio BBs... he can shoot his friends but he has to be an Earth Buddy while he does it. I got him some cool PPE to go with it.

He earned it, it's what he wants, I trust his judgment... mostly. He's been operating chainsaws safely for a couple of years now.

For the uninitiated: Airsoft is a general term for replica weapons that shoot 6mm plastic BBs. As long as you're not at close range they sting a little but not much, supposedly less than a paintball. I've never been shot by either one so I can't say how much less. It looks like the next big war game thing, much more interesting than paintball.

The cool thing is those crazy Japanese created precision AEG airsoft weapons which are pretty dang accurate and fire full auto... very cool.

I just can't abide buying 10,000 plastic BBs and leaving them on the ground... and I HAVE to abide...

The Dude abides man.

I know I am preaching to the quire here. There is a roving band of kids that cruise my hood and terrorize all the other kids with airsoft guns. It is getting to the point that my neighbors kiddo is afraid to go out unless hes packing. It is getting a little out of hand. I myself am a gun toting liberal and own several airsoft pieces. But alas, it seems like serious steps are going to have to be taken to influence some of the parents in my area. We (me and the neighbor) have talked to some of the other parents and have been blown off completely. Some of the parents were even aggressive with us and took it that we were out to tell them how to raise there kids. it is a sh*&^$ty situation. My boy is only two and I cant wait to get him his first airsoft/pellet gun but it is gonna be a couple of years. Do you folks see any way of influencing other parents to get them to realize that their children are not being taught respect for a very seriuos tool. My dad would have busted my BB gun over my butt if I ever did anything unsafe with it.

I might have to resort to calling 311 when I see these little gangs toting there airsoft around the hood. I was hoping it wouldnt come to that but I dont see any other way at this point.

Any ideas?

That's a bad situation when parents won't or can't keep their kids in check. It's all on them, keeping their kids from hurting other kids is a primary responsibility.

It's easy to imagine that gang thing happening and somebody SHOULD tell those idiot parents how to raise their kids cuz they're doing it wrong.

I'm pretty certain it's illegal here to display a firearm of any kind on public property which includes streets and most ROWs. So maybe the cops need to hear about it.

As fast as airsoft seems to be growing, I'm sure some legislation will be coming down the pike on it. This is all new to me but I'm a gun owning liberal myself... I don't tote anymore though.

I think those kids need to be taught a lesson. A big shot and a cooler full of water balloons can take care of a group of punk kids.

That and an angry father with a claw hammer.

You don't remember me shining the green laser at your crotch for the whole weekend in front of your boy? I totally emasculated you in front of your son. I am the Alpha Dog. Kids respect that.

Alpha dog you are... I'm still the alpha male though. As much as he likes you and your pathetically immature tricks, one word from me and it is you who will be emasculated... and not metaphorically either.

Airsoft cool stuff , my kids had those gun and now it's paintball yea,,,, We have a team of 30 guys and we play other teams every month , from open fields to building close quarters, it's a rush..

Later in SO-CAL

So, just how many times did you do that? You can approximate if you're too dense to remember.

If the kids are using the airsoft for evil... you must use a bigger weapon with more force and the water balloon is a not lethal alternative of said bigger gun.

Let's put it this way, about 1/2 the time, you had no clue. But your son was loving every minute of it. He's quick, and was very eager to share in the conspiracy with me.

Wow, you really set yourself up... see, next year, I'm gonna pop you with my new M14 in that not so little fanny of yours as many times as you pointed your stupid laser at my also not so little... you get the idea. Good thing it shoots full auto, I'm gonna be busy.

Good thing you'll be wearing your PPE.

Claw hammers aren't always lethal.

I dont know about the biodegradable rounds but I would think that they would be pretty harmless to any living thing left in the elements. Just a little unsightly. I have a G36K made by JG and a co2 powered s&w sigma-39 rnds and 400fps.
We have CQB in an abandoned high school, still has doors, windows, desks, sinks, gym, hall etc. Alot of fun

We went with all bio BBs and haven't had a single problem. The kids shooting plastics are getting hammered because they all caught up on cheap BBs and cheap guns... they can't even get in range without being stung, usually several times times.

THe CQB in an old building sounds pretty fun. You wouldn't have to shoot bios then either. I'm a ranged attack guy though so maybe an M24 is my next toy. I don't like getting shot. I let my son shoot me wearing through a tshirt with the M14 at about 35' and it stung like hell.

Junior got his G&G M4 yesterday and it's sweet. My UTG M14 shoots great but the construction is kinda weak.
