Any Canadians working (legally) in the States?

I'm trying to figure out what the visa requirements/processes are and the internet in wonderfully unhelpful on this topic. Plenty of info, but nothing saying "DO THIS" "PAY THIS" "WAIT HERE"

If anyone has any insights I'd much appreciate it.

Also taxes are complicated too.. I know if you’re dual and work in Canada you have to pay Canada and the states.

Thanks for the link.

FWIW, I recently headed to Vancouver, Bc for the IUFC . (PNW-ISA conference, essentially) I was comped the entire $624 Cdn fee, in exchange for shooting the event. Got held up and questioned for quite some time at the border. Among other questions and concerns by the agent, was this: "If I look on your phone, will I see any talk about you being paid for shooting pictures?"......

We got searched on the way back! Going up was smooth as butter!

While I was inside their office, he asked for my keys, had me take a seat, while he went to search my truck, where my phone was. He hemmed and hawed, chatted with another agent, but I don't think he even bothered to go inside my truck...

The contrast between the US agents and the Canadians was stark. Once side was polite, and courteous. The other had a authoritarian air, of guilty until proven innocent. For us they were looking for weed (so they said), tried the good cop/bad cop thing. Tried to get a confession that we were brining weed over the boarder threatening jail time and 5k fines.. Almost felt like I should have said yes just to cover my ass, even though there was no chance.

Canada has a history of being very aggressive to touring bands from the us. Kids without a pot to piss in are separated and berated about how much money they will be making and so forth. Just my experience.

What boy band were you in Gorman? My second or so cousin is the bass player in one republic...

I never crossed over the border to play but many friends have. Can’t bring equipment because they won’t be allowed in. Maybe just a snare and guitars. You can’t say youre going to play a show even if it’s not advertised and you don’t get paid.

USA doesn’t seem to care as much as long as you don’t have a dui or felonies.
