Hello- could someone point me toward the ansi standard for hand splices please?
I'm looking for any and all information on the basic requirements in regards strength and testing methods.
Thanks

Last that I knew, there aren’t any ANSI Standards for splices.

A spliced climbing line must meet the 5400 lbs strength requirement and that’s it as far as I know.

Chris,

That 5400# standard is just the naked line without knots or splices, correct?

As we see more and more of us splicing perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to see some ANSI standards for splices within our domain. That would go a long ways towards covering our rears should a question ever arise about one of our splices.

Just a thought.

BTW, sorry I missed you at NEG this year. I got waylayed and had to bail.

ANSI Z133.1-2006
8.1.12 - "Splicing shall be done in accordance to manufacturers' specifications."

That's all it says regarding splices.

Are there no guidelines regards the testing?
5400lbs is over the ce requirement of 15kn held statically for three minutes. The ce test includes a dynamic drop aswell.
If I understand correctly the ce guidelines were borrowed from industrial access.
I'm surprised that the ansi standard is so hollow. I can only assume that with so many great splicers in the US there are guidelines in the pipework for more in depth arb standards?
Certainly with the proliferation and splicing and use of so many different ropes these days it is an interesting area to look at.
