Another hitch hiker thread

i've been looking at the scion but keep seeing reports of stretch.
would you care to give me your review of it?
Yes it's pretty stretchy, about like kernmaster, well not as bouncy as kernmaster. Kind of like stretch but with shock absorbers. it's also supple, knots well, good grip, and doesn't flatten out . I'm really liking it with the HH-2 and I've tried allot of ropes. Am I the only one out there not bothered in the least by a stretchy climbing rope?

i'm pretty new to the HitchHiker2 and have been really getting to it.
i've a foot ascender and the SAKA and holy hell is it a pleasure.

i have 120' of 11.7 yale aztec. and that's been lovely and strong and very workable.

i'm in SouthEast WI and we get tall trees but more than that we get crazy spreaders
to the point that i've come very close to running out of tail with the 120'

i was thinking about a nice light 200'
i had narrowed it down to
11mm htp or
blue moon or
scion or perhaps
all gear bluecraze.

i've put together a hitchcord sampler of
Ocean Polyester 10mm
Armor-Prus 8mm Cord
9.3mm EpiCord BLUE
Arbpro 9mm
and
Sterling RIT 9mm

i would really love your input

I must be missing something, I run the stock beeline on vortex and AP on cherry bomb, no complaints and runs and tends great, but I'm no production climber. 2 or 3 climbs a week.

When I first got a Rope Wrench it took me 2 minutes to figure it out. The HH took me 2 months ;operator error, wrong hitch cord, to many wraps, loose wraps, wrong rope, it locked up, would not tend or grab..... I Don't think you're missing anything, it just sounds like you clicked allot better with the HH than at least I did. But hey I love it now.

I've tried it on Blue Moon, Tachyon, Velocity, Rocket Line and some different static rescue lines. The All Gear Rocket Line is my favourite line of all time. It has the firmness of Tachyon but it seems to be more abrasive resistant than other ropes. I already have a hank of the Cherry Bomb for when the Rocket Line gets retired to the cottage.

As far as hitch cords I've used Bee Line, Ocean Polyester, HRC, epicord and Armor-prus. HRC and 8 mm Armor-prus worked the best for me. I think it was M. Chisholm that turn me on to HRC, I remember him posting on here that it was great for heat resistance. Awesome for bombing out of the tree. The Armor-prus is very stiff but once it's worked in it's nice.

I find the rubber tube trick is key with the HH. It allows the hitch to be dressed sporty while acting like a spring to re-engage when loaded. And the Stevedore releases really well as a stopper knot.

It was already said but taking it off and putting it back on often takes a lot of the frustration out of the setup. It becomes like muscle memory, still slower than the Akimbo but it's OK I guess. The HH gets a lot of flack but for 160$ it's pretty damn good.

Hope this helps and thanks to those that have passed this knowledge on to me.

Not that clicked in, it was more like "gad f'n dammit, with our low dollar and high shipping costs I'm a gonna make this thing work no matter what"

Haha that's pretty much how I feel too. No matter how frustrated I am, at heart I'm still just a cheap and stubborn canuck.

Not much quality gear for a reasonable price in Ontario, even cherrybomb, made in Ontario jumped from $1.14/ft to $1.57. That was my sacrifical rope on sappy pitchy trees now I have to baby it.

so today i did a solo job.
cottonwood and 2 elm removals all HH2 and it would've been impossible or just a lot more tiring ddrt.

but i did run short on rope and had to switch to a canopy anchor.
seems like the 200' i thought was going to be overkill will most definitely not.

so,

1 vote for all gear..

as for the HH2 driving people nuts.
i'm not seeing it.
i am starting to see the benefits of an all mechanical ala bulldog bone, akimbo, RR and so forth, but really, the HH2 worked really really well today.

once i knew that i was out of rope i had to switch directions up the tree.
no trouble.
i had to be careful for sure but....
