If he's charging money he's as much a professional as any of us by definition. And technically he's an arborist as well. Even a certified one. Not ISA Certified but he may have a swimming certificate which would make him a certified arborist, even fully certified becuase it doesn't mean anything either. So they could of called him that.
He shouldn't of been working on trees, as it turns out. Just like I shouldn't be messing with 220 volt wiring, but I do. Actually plumbing, roofing, foundations, heating, welding there's always gonna be a guy like me. But I wouldn't charge money for those skills. That's where the threshold's gotta be.
Professional licensing in tree care is often justified to prevent damage to trees. Good, because one spike prune can finish a tree for example but removal work needs some licensing push as well. The work people are paying good money for is bad.
ps Good call on the rescue allmark. Or get some first aid training that gives you the confidence to treat injuries as they appear. What do they call it "the golden 20 minutes". That guy made it 3 hours with only broken bones.
You gotta know when to hold em
know when to fold em
know when to walk away
know when to run.
Now I've got to play the video.
