Anchor Style Lowering Device

I welded a clevis to the open end to enable pretensioning with a rope come-a-long and a macro grab.
We mostly now just use this porty on the mini or front receiver on the truck.

thats a neat idea pelorus. a couple times we have used a 'biner with a pulley + a prussic and another pulley on the line for a 3 : 1 MA for lifting. then when lifting, you can sweat the line right into the anchor porti thing. then your still go to go right into lowering.

That device was manufactured by Charlotte Rigging Supply (CRS). No longer in production. That design was modified to the Porty 1, which was modified to the Porty 2, which was modified to the Porty 3.
I have the evolution of models in my basement, except for the 1 pictured. I have the 1st Porty 1 and 1st Porty 2. Manufactured at Aerial Equipment in Wheeling, IL.

You guys do realize that Norm is one of the original inventors of the port a wrap?

I gotta credit Owen Goltz for coming up with idea of welding a shackle to the end of the porty.
Mebbe some other person showed Owen first; I dunno. :)

Can anyone better explain the shorter leg? Unless it's that insanely simple, i believe I'm misunderstanding the rope loading or orientation?
Thanks!
Of the PortaWrap? It's for keeping the initial bight of rope (which is fed down through the upper eye) from slipping off the end of the device.

will i think he's talking about the PW1. Jmaher picture the shorter leg being the same as what Treelogic is describing, for the intial wrap, then the next wraps are taken on the longer side. it is about as simple as lowing devices get.

I was referring to the portie 1. Thanks either way, to both of you. We have one (pw1) laying around the shop, and no one touches it, or was certain on rope load. That's the very best. Thanks boys!

Does anyone have any interest in the lowering device pictured in the original post? It has sat shelved since shortly after this post was made and I know a few people had expressed interest in finding one.

I would. First year in business, trying to collect as I go, just ran into a scenario where we could have used a second portiwrap. And that first gen is the BEST thing to teach people with as it's just so simple

I didn't expect multiple people to want it lol. I'd be more inclined to trade it someone. Would either of you be into that? I'm into all kinds of climbing and rigging gadgets. I could specifically use a 5/8" or larger dead eye sling if you happen to have one un-used but am open to everything. I got a portawrap and then another and then the stein with he winch so this thing hasn't been used for some time

I don't know how y'all feel about trading but for me it's easier to just trade unused gear for new (to me) gear rather than for money and have to tell my wife I'm making another order. I am specifically looking for a cinch too if either of you have one.

A ratchet strap can be choked above the POW with the long strap around the trunk, coming down to the POW, hooked with the ratchet side. Easy to tension the POW upward, so No Flop. As things stretch and slip on the trunk, just keep snugging up the ratchet strap. Keep the tail out of the way of the rigging. Ezpz.
