Aluminum Rope Brake

Perhaps, something like a heavy duty figure eight with a monolithic bollard integral and perpendicular to the eight. The first friction would be a bight of rope slipped through the eight and around the bollard, and then additional wraps around the bollard if required. Then if there is too much friction to allow the load the descend, wraps could then be removed to allow the load to descend.

Two pieces of pipe would work, welded into a small cross, with pegs on three of the ends and a ring on the last.

I’ve used something similar to the above for a small k-boom. It made for adjustable slings. Pretty slick.

Similar to a old school porty.
 
Gotta be nice on the rope to share the friction between the lowering device and the canopy brake.
The AFB looks much less cumbersome though.
 
The capacity of this Rope Brake is way beyond what I found needed when I found the BMS Belay Spool. We used the BS for rigging out tops. Limb wood to about 8"x10' or so. Larger than that and we used a block in the tree and a device on the ground
 
I remember seeing that at the ‘17 expo as well. Liked it a lot. Doing bucket work I think it would be ok. If I’m climbing, I don’t wanna haul it up there though. It wasn’t ungodly heavy but there are lighter options to haul up. Maybe not as heavy duty though. If they sent me one to demo I would gladly do it and put it through hell.
 
So here is my conceptual rope brake design, (which my sister suggested the name Bullring). The top side of the ring would be fastened to the tree, and the bottom side would be where you insert the rigging bight and bring it around the bollard on the other side, and if needed, an additional wrap can be added to the bollard around the opposite side.bullring top.webpbullring end.webp
