I'm not an akimbo owner however my experience with other mechanicals has been that it's possible for the device to grab properly when the line is slack or when weight is being applied to the mechanical.
But with a foot ascender applying tension from below, the multicender device can begin to slip. So when dialing in settings you need to really put your full weight on the line somehow and then tighten. The device will grab once the foot ascender releases tension but it can be very concerning to see the multicender fall when the line is weighted.
