Akimbo Pre Order Poll

Want one to try one... didn't buy one.. So useless towards poll.. but have question..

Rumor or not.. Would RE actually punish Wesspur for that? If so, thats sounds like some price proud petty BS.. Just wondering if it's standard procedure by Manufacturers.

Not sure about punishment, but I'm 95% sure that petzl has a similar pricing policy, thats why you usually see petzl items on sale at the same time on multiple sites, and the prices are usually the same, regardless of where you order

This is common for a lot of things. Keeps pricing even across the board. Prices are set by the manufacturer and you make this much profit. Now the manufacturer might give you a discount if you buy X amount to increase your profit margin. Same as buying a chainsaw from a dealer.

Yes I've always noticed this.. sales at same time similar pricing, BUT you only see that here in USA, go elsewhere & you'll shit seeing what you've been paying for hardware...etc..

I get what MAP is & the reasons for it as a business.. Do i agree with it? Ehhhh.. IDK. At first thought you would think if a peice of hardware is worth it, it would set it's own worth..I think MAP just inflates things in this trade beyond their true value.. or any trade for that matter.. & if you've bought it, I don't think anyone should be able to tell you what you can or can't sell it for.. you know?

Also.. Honest question.. @theatertech87 mentioned Petzl & MAP.. Is Petzl setting MAP 100% higher for US sales? For example, like i mentioned way above I can buy a Zig Zag pretty much any day of the year for $160-$170usd if i avoid going to TreeStuff, Wesspur, Sherill, Baileys, Gap.. If i do stay local & buy at one of those above it's $265+.. & lowest is maybe 230 with a Black Friday sale.. A hundred dollar difference is HUGE & obviously i don't need to explain how it looks from a consumers perspective.

Regardless.. i was more curious about the supposed punishment end of things & if the big players in this biz really would go that far to protect a few dollars worth of profit. The idea of it just seemed childish/emotion driven & counter productive to getting the product out to the public. Like some Narco punishing one their Distro's for breaking the rules. Extreme example but you get the point.

It’s to do with the import tax that Canada / US have to pay on importing EU products

Unfortunately on any EU brands (Petzl, DMM, Stein, etc) it’s going to be significantly cheaper at Honeybros or similar websites.

My personal choice is getting all my Canadian / US products from local suppliers but when it’s $400 for a zigzag here and $220 from Honeybros ... it’s just the rules of the game

Ps. Canadian prices for reference

I get what your saying.. no doubt.. but that tax percentage can't be more than 2 or 3% here in the US... What's that, maybe $5 per item @170.. Yeah.. No.. ? You think more? & that's assuming US vendors buying bulk cant get it cheaper than what UK buyers are paying for single item retail (which isn't believable). Idk bud.. i don't think numbers add up..

I don't want to jamb this thread up.. PM me if you want to bud, id like to wrap my head around it.

Well for Canada it’s 12% sales tax on most imported goods afaik. What I’m referring to is import / export tariffs on goods coming from other countries. These tariffs range from 0% to 15% depending on the type of products

Yes.. Yes.. that's what I'm talking about as well...[emoji6] To get to 279.99 US retail you have to multiply 170 x 164.7 percent..

I’m just saying :coffe: I’ve spoken with the local shops that id like to support by buying gear there, and that’s the explanation they’ve given me as to why EU-based companies have such a price discrepancy between EU and NA

Something my friends used to do a couple years ago with their friends over the borders. The northern family from Canada would come south twice a year or more. So the friends would ask other friends to buy things in CA or USA or purchase online and ship to each other's home addresses. Then when the family crossed the borders back and forth. They would bring the goods back and forth.

If the difference in an order is a few hundred $$$, I'm sure a local NY or similar traveler wouldn't mind holding on to items until you could make arrangements. Lots of times simply taking items out of packaging and reshipping is enough...
