Adkpk down but not out

I did the bare necessities at work today to come home and rest a little. I am pretty smart, I think, when it comes to my body. I am a good healer and am not worried.
Get a bunch of blueberries. They're in season. Kale, too. You probably know all this anyway. Just be back in shape for the early 2015 climb! I hope to see you there.

Yep, Bob, gave me a call to tell me about his adventure with gravity. We did some analysis over a few brews yesterday. All in all, he's a damn lucky dude to be walking and talking with any semblance of normalcy. I use the stick trick when trying to hop over a nub or a watersprout. Next time he's by we'll practice that on the mulberry by my deck.

Same as they show in Tree Climber's Companion?

I feel like I've tried it, but felt the throwline just didn't have enough weight to make a wave that would reach the nub.

Are you talking about the fall or just in general.

Tried flicking with a stick. But I didn't think of a plastic bottle. But here's another funny thing. The last time I climbed this mulberry, about a week ago, same problem almost. But last time the throwball dropped enough in the crotch for me to reach it with a ladder. But the rope wouldn't go through the crotch so I used a firework that was in the yard. It was a tail end of a rocket and my rope fit though it. It worked so I kept it in the toolbox of my trailer which was not there on Tuesday. That iffy branch became the answer this time.

Send up a 5 gallon Poland Spring inverted cooler container. You can bust out 2" wood for that perfect union!

One last thing, I was using a hybrid system, a basal tie and an omni pulley over the tip with my doubled rope using the pulley for a frictionless ride. If I was just double roped I could have bought 5". I don't think that branch would have handled the friction from a rope doubled over it.
Is it possible that maybe the above set-up doubled Bob's weight on the branch that tore out?

As I recall Tom demo'ing it, take two plastic spring water bottles, cut the bottoms off both of them, nest and press them together with a bottle opening at each end, thread the two-ended bottle onto the rope, move it to the middle of the rope or wherever it needs to be, put an inline stopper on each end of the bottle, move the bottle up to the nub, move the bottle back and forth over the branch, the bottle will roll and easily jump over most nubs.

Back to my old self today. Bouncing around and taking care of business. Got a collection of bottles even. I'll take you up on the stick practice next time I make it over to your house Rob. Thanks.

Got the tenex splice done last night. It's a 2 fid straight bury and lock a stitch. I got a pic but got to run.

Good to hear, Bob. Bottles up!

I am not nit picking. I respect the responses on this thread so far. I understand the situation. I have been there. I fully realize hindsight is 20/20 or better. I have been very lucky.

My advice next time:
Relax. Slow down. The tree is not going anywhere. There are things in this life worth dying for. Trees are not one. (trust me)

Remember the definition of productivity:
Efficiency accomplished safely.

Adkpk,
Glad you are safe and whole. Enormously happy you took your own boots off after that experience. Let's you, I and TH drink a beer someday!

Tony
