ultrasling is pretty nice

For lighter loads a nylon loop girthed around a limb with a small pulley works well

Absolutely can be used to tie around the butt. I have one that I leave the Portawraped on full time just for that.

Those are probably all larger than what you need for many in tree applications. they are not hard to make with Tenex TEC. Tree Stuff has a splicing video series that includes how to video. I've found it a worthwhile series. I know there has been discussion in the "show off" splicing thread...probably others too.
