A FORD CHEVY THING

I hear a lot about the GRCS an STEIN on the buzz, but not to much on the HOBBS. Is it a ford chevy thing or do people think one is that much better. Do the people that like one over the other like it because its all they have used or have people given the opposing unit a fair shot?(not just 2 3 times)
I have both GRCS and HOBBS in the shed, and use each one for different apps. I wood love to work the STEIN unit and c what it has to offer, looks like a lot.

We have both the hobbs and the GRCS. They both have advantages to us. The hobbs smooth bollard gives us more consistant lowering control and the option to take slack out quickly without changing bollards. GRCS's course (ratcheting) bollard takes a bit more to get used to because of the added friction. I think it also glazes and fuzes ropes easyer. But it gives the option of one man lifting. I like the smooth (not ratcheting) bollard on the GRCS as much as the hobbs but no slack removal.
Each has its advantages and disadvantages. When you have both you can choose which will work best for the particular job at hand, when you dont... Well you make do.
I would realy like to try the double Stein that Reg has got.

By the way its all Ford.

I LOVE the Hobbs, I LIKE the GRCS. The Hobbs will take abuse all day, loves the big wood, great tool. The GRCS has great lifting capabilities, but our crew has trouble with the rope overlapping after lowering a lifted piece.

If not for the overlapping, I would love them equally, i think, just like i do stihl and husqvarna.

But like has been said here, I really want a DUAL from Stein. Saving my pennies.

I never unstand this one, unless your using the thing wrong. You know the rope has to stay in the crome finger after you take it out of the rope grab right.!!!! ????? then ran through the pig tail. Only time I ever seen rope wrap is when guys used it wrong.

X2 on this

I used to never use the chrome finger and had similar issues. Then I finally decided to watch the grcs used correctly and have never had the problem since.

Too many people assume they can just walk up to most units and use them without being taught (what has two thumbs and resembles this statement? This guy right here)

I've always seen the grcs used and assumed that it looked simple enough and thought I knew how to use it and for the most part I was right, but it's the subtle things like using the pigtail properly and using the chrome finger that I didn't know

As for the stein, I have a feeling it's going to take a lot of people by surprise and really cut into the Hobbs profit margin if the pre tensioning device works anything like it's advertised. Judgeing by the videos and reg coates dedication to the device, I'm sure it works fantastic. I'm hoping to pick one up in the coming months

Thanks guys, I'm usually the one up the tree, or in the bucket, and am asking my guys to try it different ways, but haven't been on it myself in a while.

We still have the video, and two new ground guys, so we'll revisit it and study the "chrome finger."

I knew we were doing something wrong. The Hobbs may just be more user-friendly in that there are less loops and stuff to pass the rope through. Thanks for the input.
