8mm or 10mm Bee Line for 11.7mm rope???

i use velocity, i have tried 8mm bee, Ice tail and HRC on it. all have worked great. The 8mm beeline and HRC can take a beating and preform very well for me. The ice tail preforms great but it does not seem to handle abuse as well as the other two. If i had to choose i would say HRC is the best with beeline a close second.

Nick/Norm/anybody else -- Have you ever put a piece of shrink wrap over the cover/core transition and then putting a lockstitch over the shrinkwrap (and then dipping in whipdip or whatever)?

I have seen this done before I can't remember where...

I've done the whiplock, then Dip-It, then heat shrink. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to stitch through the heat shrink.

Normally I just lockstitch the brummels in the core, paint the eyes with Dip-It, stretch the jacket back over, whiplock it down and trim the jacket.

I think the heat shrink is entirely unnecessary. The whipping is more than sufficient to serve (pun intended) the purpose of holding down the cover. I think the heat shrink is just a way to make it easier to finish the product easier. You don't have to measure as exact when you have the tubing there to cover up the ends of the cover.

Blinky,

That's an awfully sexy splice on the HRC . . . I spent ten minutes just looking at it.

Things are going to be different for me now. I've always tied the dbl fishermans bend (or WTF ever the Knotzis here like to call it) . . . but that spliced eye fit on the carabiner is so neat and tidy.

Very elegant.

You got White Dip-It too. My first batch was clear and it was sweet. They substituted white on me last time... I hate the white.

I like the white. But mine is Maxijacket from Yale. It's a much more lung-friendly coating. Dip-it is sorta harsh.

I don't mind the white, though. But clear sounds cooler!
