600 Ton Crane

Very impressive. I'd like to know how long it takes to set a crane like that up, and how long to set up for 1 lift?

TK, it looks like the come-a-longs are used for exactly what you mentioned. Or maybe a precaution to keep the load from shifting? They are both on the outside legs.

Good eye! Also, I don't like the sharp bend radius of the cable eyes on the lower shackles. Awesome crane! I saw a 550 ton working at the U of M last year. HUGE!

I heard from the crane operator, he commented on the come-a-along:

"The reason for the rigging is that parking garage double T’s are set on an angle because garage’s on ramps made of concrete and the come along will make the t’s lean enough to set bought ends at the same time."

He sent me some pictures that I will post when I get permission from him to do so.

Don't quote me on this, as I'm by no means an expert, but probably a day or two, no more to set the crane up. Usually, the crane can self assemble it's own counter weights, and such, but more than likely, a separate crane is used to assemble to luffing jib, as it is assembled in parts and the big cranes boom must be fully boomed down, since assembly of the jib is done on the ground.

i built cranes and rigged for barnhart before doing trees. the average tractor trailer can haul 40000lbs with no permit. 16 loads for the counter weights, one or two for the boom and luffer although i could be wrong i couldn't count the sections. one for the mats and the block and rigging gear. that block probably weighs in at 16000 to 30000lbs. nice rig. bet it was a union job because the appertices job is to polish the rig. notice the ironworker was not tie'd off. go to barnhart.com if you want to see some cool sh_t. peace and chicken grease

the bend rad. on the shackle can't be helped that pre cast is heavy probably 80 to 90 tons being moved up and down by 2- 1 1/2 ton com-a-longs wheels are cool
