5/16 or 3/8 For Tresse Cord???

I noticed that either cord diameter works equally well for friction hitches. It all depends on cord construction, cord length, climbing style, body weight, rope construction and finally personal preference.

For example, I used a 5/16ths and had a hard time with it not gripping the rope right away when i put weight in it and it would bind up real bad, but i shortened the cord and haven't had any problems since. The cord was the all tan technora and the knot was a straight six( 5 true) wraps around the rope.

Give different stuff a try and at different lenghts you'll find something you like.

Well put! --and maybe also on the rope you're hitching to, as well as
there likely being some variations per hitch to adjust either dia. cord to
work acceptably well.

Which is why I encourage a sort of full disclosure (i.e., details as suggested
above) when discussing such preferences--what hitch in what cord on what
rope for what weight one is preferring to < ditto > , < ditto >, ... .
Patterns show up better this way.
