I had a chainsaw stolen from my place a little more than a month ago. The insurance company is finally coming through, and the replacement saw is going to be in the 46x category.
Looking up the specs i found the 461 is a 76cc saw and the 462 is 72cc.
Is this correct? M-tronic debate aside which is the better saw?

I have mixed feelings; the 462 is lighter and has the same rated output, but the 461 is a solid, proven, reliable saw, without the extra unnecessary electronics. If you like gadgets and the latest and greatest, buy the 462. Otherwise, if you’re old school like me, buy the 461. I don’t think you’ll have any complaints about it, we never have.

Problems with the m tropic could be sourced back to the substandard fuel we use in the us. The fuel is cleaner in other parts of the world so apparently stihl has changed the micron filter in the saws to a smaller one to prevent small debris getting to the fuel solonoid.

What about the Stihl pre-mixed stuff, MotoMix?

I’m mostly asking if the extra 1.5 lbs or so is worth the extra 4cc. I’m all about a lighter saw, and love how versatile and nimble my 440 was.

14.7 lbs = 461
13 = 462
13.8 = 440

Stihl says both the 440 and 461 can run 32” bars, yet the 462 tops at 28”?

My thought is that the extra weight isn’t a big deal, put a Lightweight bar on it and you’ll gain most of that back, without losing the displacement. As all the old muscle car drivers would say, “There’s no replacement for displacement.” You’ll also have a saw you can work on yourself, without a computer to “program” the carburetor.

I've seen a vid somewhere of a 462 cutiing significantly faster than the 461 and I think the 500i. That being said, I'd prefer non M-Tronic as well.
On the Motomix, I know it contains barely any benzene and other stuff that is contained in regular fuel.

How often will you use it aloft @evo? If it were me and the saw would be mostly ground work I’d go with the 461 to stay away from the M-tronic stuff. I like @Reach’s idea of a lightweight bar. Might take that advice myself.

It wouldn’t leave the ground much.. I’d rather slap a 28” on my 361

Even the saw shop recommended the 461 over the 462. So that’s what I got.. not m-tronic
Used it on a short chubby grand fir and already notice much more power over my ole 440 with slightly more weight

I have lots of both, I fall timber with a 462 and cut on the landing with a 461 . If Im just laying trees down the 462 is a lot nicer to use and if I can only have 1 I will take a 462 arctic

I bought the 461, granted I have never run a 462 I’m very happy. I did forget about the vapor lock/fuel spouge thing. Mine hasn’t done it so don’t know if it’s fixed.
