441 or 460??

We're getting ready to buy a new saw soon and wondered what everyone thought of these two saws. Right now, we're leaning towards the 460 after talking to Jeremy on the phone eariler, so any advice on which one. Thanks

The 441 is a total ripper! I have an MS460 w/25" bar and love it. The power heads weigh the same but the 460 has 6cc extra displacement and about .5 hP more than the 441. If you go with the 460, get a 28" bar.

Oh, it's worn a 32" in frozen Box Elder with no problems too.

I don't know about the US. but stihl have discontinued the 460 over here.
I wore a black armband for a week, when I found out.It has been my favorite midweight logging saw for a long time.
Now I have bought a 441 instead, have logged with it for 3 months solid now, and I got to say: I love it.
No vibrations to speak of and I have only had to clean the airfilter once, thanks to the new turbo-cleaning system ( which they stole from Jonsered, by the way. Credit where credit is due).

I just bought a 460, and so far so good but not used it up a tree yet. I run it with a 20inch bar, can't imagine wanting more than that.

I looked at the 441. It seemed a bit over designed, the 460 was more solid and straightforward, like a smaller version of the 660 (or 066 that I have)

I'm wearing the black armband for my old 044 which I have had the longest of all my saws and it was a real star!

I like the 460 with a 24-32 inch bar. If I am going to use a 20 inch bar I use a smaller lighter saw. IMO, you're asking too much if you try anything larger than a 32 inch bar. I'll have a 441 next week so I'll hold my thoughts on that until I've run it a bit.

Get a 460 for sure.

The extra power is great!

And make sure the dealer throws in a Dual Port cover for free. FREE extra power is the best kind!

Thanks guys. We ordered the 460 today w/ a 24" bar. We have 28" and 32" bars as needed, so this seemed like a good combo for now. Also, Boston Bull, what is a Dual Port Cover. Dad talked to the dealer and he knew nothing about it. Maybe I described it wrong to Dad?? Thanks

The dual port cover #1128 140 0801, $31.00, is a Stihl Factory dual port exhaust cover. It installs from the front, just take the four bolts off, pop the flat cover off, put the new one on with the old gasket and install the 4 bolts again. It is nice because it DOES NOT void warranty since it is a factory part.

I still have an 044 with a 28" bar. I don't use it alot since TCOT's bought me a 372XP 24" to use. The 044 was and is 1 of Stihl's better ground saws, in my opinion. If the 372XP can last as long as the 044, I'll be impressed.

We have two 044's that are at least 10 years old. Their starting to have some problems now, so thats one reason we bought the 460. They are a great ground saw. I think we had a 24" bar on ours for ground use. Nice saw.

There shouldnt even be a choice here 460 all the way if it has to be a Stihl saw in this class.
If you havent noticed alot of guys fell to the hype of the 441 and they are now on the market everywhere like new.
Why carry around the same weight as a 460 without the power.

..........460.........
