40.9 cc saw with a 20" narrow kerf bar

Re: 40.9 cc saw with a 20\" narrow kerf bar

I would say, 16" max.

There are gonna be different opinions on this. My preference is not to overbar any saw.
14" on MS200T
18" on 346XP-narrow kerf(Oregon 95VP chain & narrow kerf bar
24" on 372XP-semi skip chain(Oregon 72AK)
28" on 044-full skip (Oregon 72CJ)

390 will make a good boat anchor, if you attach a good boat anchor to it . . . otherwise it's a total goddamned whoreball POS. There are old, abandoned Japanese soldiers living in caves in remote islands around Guadalcanal, still fighting that horrible war, and even they know to avoid the MS 390.

Buy a 346XP, get it woods ported..total $ spent, about $700....and you have an 11 lb saw that will cut circles around a 390, or any ~65cc saw, in stock form.

Or, look for a Husky 365, which has better power and weight than the 390 boat anchor--better yet, if one can be found, a used Makita 6401 at Home Depot..about $200. Put a $200 Dolmar 7900 jug on it, and you have a saw lighter than the 390 that will out cut a 460 Stihl with ease.

ya know i thought about the 6401 but i dont like the way that saw looks. it looks kinda futuristic and wierd. i like the boxy looking designs of the stihl and husky saws. i might get the 6401. the 6401 will out cut the 460? so it will pull a 32 incher with a 80cc motor?

. Put a 7900 79cc p+c on the 6401 and you will have a saw that will weigh less then 390 and out cut 460 76cc.
