3-strand question

I know splicing 3-strand is about as basic as it gets, but I use very little 3-strand rope. I recently got some, and put an eye in each end. The question: Do you cross stitch or whip the splice near the tails to minimize the "frayed fluff" or allowing the tails to unsplice?

Cut the tails and then I like to melt them with the side of a knife heated with a propane torch. No need to whip or stitch.

I always tape the 3 strands while splicing. Afterwards I cut them down then melt the ends.

Thanks. Melting ends would be way easier.

I like melting the ends after it has taken a cycle or two of loading just to set the splice and take out any slack.
