24 yr old climber killed, Maryland.

That is un-------believeable..... SO BAD....

I got zapped once.. touching a guy wire to a pole on a wet day... Top of this little mulberry was loaded with vines growing into some lower limbs from the bigger trees nearby.. pretty sure it was the wet vines that made the connection from the hot lines to the guy wire...

I clearly remember thinking.. is this it for me? Weird thing was I wasn't afraid.. my body was so busy contracting from the juice to be afraid.. emotions (like fear) always are in the body..

Removing 6 hardwoods in a patch tomorrow and everyone of them is tangled with Bittersweet vines.

I knew about the perils of vines before this thread, but will be thinking about it again tomorrow for sure.

Chris sometimes I will ascend and use a pole saw to free up the bittersweet, or I'll cut small pieces at the top and let em drop ( knowing the vines have them) , then cut the vines with the pole saw....

stay safe...

Funny that you should mention this, but that's just what I did yesterday.

Everything went fine.

If only the climber that was killed in Maryland knew about this tip, it may have made a difference?

That is the immense safety educational value in reading these Awakenings threads.

It's always better if you can learn from others mistakes rather than your own.

vines suck!!! especially the ones that poke! i always start at the bottom and work my way to the top. this way the vines drop instead of droop, which can lead to an indirect electrocution. always w/a insulated pruner that has the clipping end not the saw blade, and never in the rain or when it's wet. skip the tree or span. no job is worth a life!
