2016 Crane Safety Climber School

I'm pretty sure he was using ricks. Seems like over $125 is the average you'd pay for mats. There has to be a cheaper solution when I'm just looking to protect the ground from a spider lift. Not near the weight of a bucket or a swinger with a full load on. Could probably get away with some pretty thin plywood just for load Distrobution. Storage is the issue. I'll need a custom trailer.
Yeah those were a lot lighter then my alterna mats Steve, I usually have 3-4 mats on my tracked lift trailer. I have 10 but use that many we just leap frog em, use them for sometimes landing big pieces on that don't need roping. I can get a pic of the way I have them tomorrow if time allows.

I love those slings but just don't think I can drop that kind of coin for occasional personal use. I have a crane job tomorrow and basically no slings. Wonder how that's gonna pan out. Hopefully the crane op has some decent stuff with him.

What an absolutely amazing day. Huge willow oak lightning struck. 60t crane. Awesome operator who worked with me not against me. I used countryboypa's suggestion and used a 20' endless sling that belonged to the crane and 2 25' heavy duty eye slings as balances. Out of all the pics all but 2 were textbook. The 2 weren't bad either just not perfect. Big old 50' limbs all over everything. I used every skill I learned in class except shelf cuts. Crane operator had so many great compliments and even the boss was happy. I am so grateful to everyone involved in class who shared their knowledge with me. It was a spectacular removal. So proud. Wish I had taken video. You all would be proud. I'm on cloud 9! Thanks guys for making such a difference in my skill set.

You should be proud ! You paid attention and it puts you way ahead of the other tree guys in your area , the word will get around that Steve Connelly is the man to call for crane removals!

Great to hear Steve! Only gets better from here on in!

Hey Pete here every now and then I check in and WOW it is great to hear when we've made a positive difference for someone. Glad to hear your bag of tricks has expanded. A far as the price on the crane slings goes keep your eyes out there should be more to come there's always plenty of options just make sure your capacities are good for the configuration your using them in. Keep up the good work and represent us all

Dunno when or if I'll get an opportunity to do some more crane picks. Lotsa good memories from the crane class, though.
Photos of some backyard specimens I got to climb today.
