Bacterial Leaf Scortch.. BLS.. Slwo killer 5-10+ years on healthy trees..
They stopped planting red oaks in North Carolina some time ago (I was told) becasue the young trees son't stand a chance.. Older healthier trees last a little longer, but eventuallu succumb..
Rainbow and others have made promises about the wonders of their products for treatment, but (again I AM told) the results are very unreliabe (hard to sell that huh?)
There are huge stands of monster red oaks in some suburban philly areas. they have begun to die and as riggs states, they appear to be going the way of the elms.. Job security for some. I decided to go with the bigger chipper etc, when it became clear they'd all be dying in the next 20 or so years...
Sure would be nice to find a way to save them... In the mean time, keep those saws sharp...
And good to hear that new england is having better health in their red oaks... hopefully it stays that way..
