20 year old topping cuts

Steve Connally

Been here much more than a while
Did 4 30"DBH sweet gums and 2 pines in a very small yard last week. Every tree was about 70 feet and had been topped atleast 20 years ago. Each lead had a little nature made bird bath at the old cut and were in bad shape. Terrible job. Climbing was miserable because I didn't feel comfortable climbing above the rot and there were atleast 6 or 7 leads per tree. Again, another lesson learned. Bid them too low, didn't schedule enough time and and didn't factor in the Huge racoon living in the last tree.

Any ideas for telling the customer how to get rid of the coon. I told him I wasn't gonna fight the coon for the tree and I would remove it once the animal was gone. I told him to contact the city animal control. My goundie said he could easly take care of it with his bow. I told the customer, if he chose to di it that way I didn't want it to be assiciated with the company. #1 illegal, and #2 i'm working in the hometown of corporate P.E.T.A.

Ideas?

The last raccoon I chased out of a tree wasn't any problem, but I was in a safe position to do it. I just swatted him on the ass with my hand saw and he climbed down the tree.

I've never had one confront me, they've always fled ASAP.

Coons I've run into aren't aggressive. This time of year the babies should be grown, so why not just stick a garden hose in the den and flush em out?

go tot he store get a cheap live trap about 20 bucks set it at or near the tree with bait in it and withing two days you will have him no problem. Animal control will charge you probably 100 to do the same thing. It is so easy. I can't belive people would pay that much to have a coon trapped just do it yourself. Good luck.

Geez, dude. My coon was sleeping, I just swatted em on the butt. But if you're talking bar-b-que, cool!

Here's a cat rescue that had to be done with a tranquilizer gun.
