MB, when you work your way to the top, climbing past the limbs that are not going to be cut off, do you free climb some or do you stay tied in full time?
 
I'm 52 years old.

I stay tied in FULL TIME.

I'll set my climb line above me, de-lanyard, and CLIMB.

Lots of freeclimbing in the past, zero now.

It was a big change to get used to, seemed kinda bogus for a long while.

Treebuzz helped alot making me realize it's the way to go, and giving me some techniques to make it easier/quicker.
 
There is a huge temptation with free climbing any type of conifer tree.

Today I took down a Colorado Blue Spruce which had succumbed to Ips Beetle. There were times when I wanted to just "get 'er done" and free climb. But, I took the extra steps and made sure I was tied in at all times.

But, hey! I'm alive and well and I would have only saved seconds off the day.
