16 strand splice secretshttp://www.treebuzz.com/fo

I've been reading posts on 16 strand splices, know about wire fids, tried coat hanger but the hook where I attach the cover hangs up in the bury or detaches part way thru. Somebody knows a trick for this but isn't tellin'. Is it closing the eye w/ solder? And how do I reliably tie the bevelled cover tail to the fid? I'm willing to pay for consulting but won't go to LA for seminars Nickhttp://www.treebuzz.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif. I'm East coast. Thanks

For the coat hanger, you don't make a hook. bend the entire thing in half. Basically, what I do is leave the original hook intact and just pull the hanger till it's straight. Tighten up the bend by squeezing it with a pair of pliers. This way, all you have to do is push the fid through the rope, pass the TIP of the tapered cover into the fid and pull the fid back through, with cover in-tow. It won't get hung up this way as you don't have a hook.
