115 ton crane removal

That was a good video indeed. Did you guys ever see the crane removal we did for DIY network's Deconstruction? The film crew strapped a camera to the last log and had a similar view. Very cool idea. I liked the chipper cam too

You guys (and operator) did a great job with the last cut.

I agree. Describing something is great, a pict is worth a thousand words but a video is almost the same as being there. This vid imo is right up there with some of the best I have seen. Not specifically referring to this one but sometimes when you mess with the editing and do quick time stuff you create a piece of fiction to some extent.....this is my fave you all have seen a zillion times but always a good watch...

Can you show that video Mark?

Bad vids suck, but you have to start somewhere. I am just beginning to make some for my site and I never have a third guy to use cam so it limits a lot. And like I said (not maliciously I promise) imo that wide span lens is great in some ways but distorts reality somewhat...looks like you can see the roundness of the planet (small laugh).

What else could be done? Maybe a cam on the chest of the op panning up the boom and including the control operating and scoping in and out etc. with microphone dialogue?

Thought from the start of this vid I saw something around the headache ball and thought maybe there were some burrs on the ball to protect the climb hook up from...but was for the cam?

T'vet,

I rewound the vid at the beginning to look at that strap too. It looked like some sort of equatorial rub padding to me too!

Mebee a strip of velcro tape Tom?

A couple of reply's here.

If you were talking about the strap on the crane ball, it was what I used to mount the camera. I had a GoPro helmet cam, and it has a quick disconnect, so I could switch from my helmet to the crane ball. Sweet setup.

This was the first video I made, and I just got the camera 2 days before we did the job. I was very fortunate how it turned out! I was mostly guessing on the some of the shots I took.

It did make everything look taller, but I like. It should help with all my tall tales when I am an old Man.

We also had a outstanding crane operator, he could use that crane like a 3rd arm, made everything much smoother.

Wow this video really impressed me. Nice and professional. Having 5 trees to remove, a crane was an absolute necessity. Glad you posted it. Riding the ball looks like fun. I have never used a crane as no one on the island wants to foot the cost but maybe one day. Paul.

David J,

I was wondering does Mike THE FUHRMAN work with you guys?

Sorry for the slow response, but ya he does. He is in Central America right now, backpacking to South America. That was the last job he was on before he left.
