1,786 foot tower climb

This was posted on here awhile ago. It is pretty sketchy. I would do it but with alternate lanyard technique.

However I Think I would "tie in" differently to rest.

Really OSHA? You would think they could run 500 hundred feet of 3 strand rope snaking down the path they take, then they could tie in with a simple ropegrab and fall arrest lanyard and harness. If the tail of the rope was tied down the rope grab just follows you and if ever you fall, you would only fall the length of your lanyard no?

Yep, thats what I was thinking. but what about retrieval and set up from where they start? I wouldnt want to climb on a rope thats been left up there after several years...

How 'bout a steel cable? Oh well. not my job. I'm SURE they know what they're doing and have safety under control...

I'll be thinking of those guys whenever I use my phone.

I wonder if they could set up "pro" (protection) like a rock climber does when lead climbing.

Aerial rescue? Literally!

Those guys have a lot of BALLS. Not my cup of tea. But nuff respect to those who do. The pay must be very good. Lots of people have dangerous jobs, this is one of them. Paul.

I did a stint working for a tower company a few years ago, still think about getting back into it occasionally, but my family doesn't want me to have to travel that much again.

Regulations state that we were to be tied in at all times, most of the towers had fall arrest systems, usually the wire rope drag clamps, but a few of the towers had the C-channel the clamps fit into. It was quite rare to find a tower without fall protection; for the most part, if they hadn't been retrofitted with FA systems, it was a tower we were taking down to replace.
