'06 gmc c5500 dying

chiselbit

Been here a while
I've got a c5500 with a duramax, if I'm on a side hill with the drivers side up the alarm sounds and then about 30 seconds later engine dies. It will start after a minute or so and drive until it either dies again or I get level. And now it's doing it on the highway when I'm pulling uphill. Took it to dealer service Dept and since they couldn't replicate the problem and it's not throwing a code they advised me to run it until whatever it is that's causing the problem breaks and then they'll fix it. Anybody with a gmc had this happen before?

Coolant sensor. You can bypass this by running a jumper wire in the sensor located in the coolant tank. Do this as only a temporary fix as that sensor is a safe guard for motor failure.

You may be sucking coolant and have a blown head gasket

I was thinking coolant level sensor myself. Sometimes they can be finicky, not just in those trucks either.

It is most likely coolant sensor. Check radiator by the mounts for moisture and or visible leaks by water pump. I've dealt with any and every issue a duramax in the 4500 n 5500 series trucks.

My 4500 did the same exact thing. It was low on coolant. The señor worked just fine, its just when the engine gets hot and starts to suck coolant form the reserves it was pulling it below the sensor by about a tablespoon. That sensor dosn't know it your a tablespoon low or a gallon.

I think that was the problem here. Embarrassing that I didn’t check the fluid level first. Seems to be fine now, appreciate all the input. Thanks guys
