OK. So what fuels your saws, skidder?
Pickup trucks etc. Not just about diesel and gas anymore. You running battery tools? Cell phones? Easy to stand back and point fingers.
Our household lives pretty close to the land.
We grow, gather hunt whenever possible. We burn wood to heat our house and...
@Basswood I totally get that point of view on downstream effects. I think that we all are adult enough to recognize the NIMBY effects as well. Extract all we can from 3rd world countries with little to no regard for the planet and those peoples health, or do it on our own soil where...
Not saying I disagree with anything in that long dissertation, but are you sure he has strip mined and drilled our national parks?
I know garbage cans are overflowing and unhoused people are camping there possibly forever, but can I get the strip mine/drill source?
The 400 is my main saw logging unless I'm in big hardwood bore cutting.
My only complaint is the plastic handle and the mounts are very squishy and don't hold up to much abuse.
Both of mine have hi flo air filters and woods ported exhaust. They rip. Run 24 inch lite bars I think the balance is...
The most vigorous and easily grafted wood is at the tips, (at least in my apple/pear world)
do they use cleft grafts on nut trees? If so I would assume some "nut" got to the the highest working spot and made the graft on the smallest wood they could?
I "worked" for an arb in Spain in 08'.
He was a kiwi who set up outside Barcelona after doing a long stint in the uk.
It took him 10 yrs to overcome the language and cultural nuances of Spanish tree torture to build a biz that valued trees and did good pruning.
He struggled finding help that...
@southsoundtree yes I have pulled pretty good size east coast timber with cables and skidders and big ropes and forwarders. I would never gut the hinge. one post failing puts a spin on the tree. It's way to sketchy for me.
Most of Daniel's vids are of spars that he has gutted the hinge and...
A full length hinge undoubtedly provides more control to a stem. I still can't quite understand why you choose 2 thick posts instead of 1 long (tapered if need be) hinge. I understand the outside 2 corners are really all that is needed for directional control, but why take the risk of removing...
Daniel . Ok I'll bite.
Wtf are you using the center plunge in an urban setting? The center plunge removes holding power of the hinge. As a professional logger I would never use that technique in the urban setting for fear of losing control of the stem. I've had so many trees "pop" those corner...
Did a cable job on a rotten sugarmaple for a lil ol lady and traded a dozen homemade whoopee pies. I felt good about the trade. Drove by recently and the tree was gone. Bought her about 10 yrs peace of mind. Bet she passed away and her kids cut it down.
I am in the process of attempting an install of sena 10s on a husky helmet. Can anyone put up a pic of where to drill holes in the muffs to put in the wire. I'd like to do it right the 1st time and I don't have anything to go off. Thanks so much!
We went with Hackberry. It has good mulch and a fence. Time shall tell. Thanks all for the input . Went with the most tolerant native northeast hardwood we could come up with and available in a nursery locally. 3 inch caliper. In the ground now. Up to the volunteers to water. Hopefully it lives...
