Not an Ash, so most likely.
This. What is the condition of the stem and root plate under your block or speedline? Wood is weakest in compression.
Is that a Maple? rubra? Here's an old silver maple we did over the winter, and a more recent pine for an idea of things I've speed-lined...
Soft lock off is great when reconfiguring your rope’s termination or when passing the device around a limb while detached from the bridge.
You’re correct, bring a bight from below the device through the connecting biner and up over the device.
Flip the Weaver chest harness attachment point, the...
Yup tree gaffs are long, pole gaffs are short. I prefer the tree gaffs, which is what they came with. Not sure how long they are exactly.
These spurs arent reinventing the wheel, they’re just plush.
I’ve been climbing in them for about 6 months now, they’re holding up well, super comfy. Wish the velcro was a little shorter, it sticks out and grabs tenex slings hanging on my saddle. Extra velcro also obscures the gaffs, and I try to keep it tucked behind the shank.
Company bought them, not...
It would be a small blue lever in the bucket near where you can attach hydraulic tools. I no longer work with that bucket, or I’d post a pic.
I would often hit it to get where I was going, as regular speed was glacial. Over-center though it was way too fast with the aux pump/reversed controls...
The altec bucket I worked with had a small blue lever that would get bumped occasionally. I thought it was for the hydraulic attachments, but the tech I spoke to said it was the aux pump. Sounds a little different and moves a lot faster.
Bucket shouldn’t run without the pto. We would...
Oh man if I still had a havens grip I’d use it every time regardless of how I was tightening the cable. The 40 and 60’ cables in that silver maple were tightened with the bolts, but we were using 5/8”, and I think that combined with a larger wrench we had the leverage to get the proper tension.
Recently replaced two old dynamic systems in a massive silver maple. Old system was not the right size to begin with, and was girdling the stems.
Here you can see Trevor after some light end-weight reduction.
Note the shock absorber in the middle of the old cable squeezed out between the...
Interesting, didn’t think about the differences in material. As far as I’ve read it seems like dry treatments increase abrasion resistance and rope life. It would be a unique feature.
I keep a hms biner just on pine removals for when my hitch totally seizes and I’m forced to undo my wrench and munter down.
Skinning out a pine pole to rig adjacent trees from is great unless you can’t take the pole down until the next day. Day two of a pine removal is truly awful.
