I'm a fan of ladder and machete operations. Not great for trees, but like the porcupines and sapsuckers their damage is limited and they have a place in the natural order of things. I'd sooner shoot a beaver than legislate these fellas out of existence.
If you can't join their country club or marry one of their daughters, maybe build a mutually beneficial and trusting relationship with the landscapers who service these folks.
Now let's hear from all the tree guys now dividing their time between the cabin and the yacht, occasionally dropping by the home office to chat with the adorable secretaries and pick up another suitcase of cash.
The set up time sounds great. How about the movement of the boom and the jib. I looked around for some video on this but couldn't find any. I'm wondering if it's achingly slow to extend, retract, and swing the arm around. I apologize for my novice questions here, but I appreciate the help.
Pelorus and Guy could get together and build some kind of arborist training program to churn out decent, employable tree workers. I don't know how that would work, but if you guys could figure it out it'd do the world some good.
Nice looking machine. How long does set up time take on average (from arrival at the job site, to using it at full extension at 97')? I'm curious whether or not set up time and operation speed are compatible with bringing it out for small jobs, when we're not even dealing with big wood--lifting...
Sean, thanks--I didn't didn't realize some lifts could pivot over-center. I can see that being helpful. Anybody use these non-pivot-over center booms for tree work?
I'm unfamiliar with bucket trucks but I looked at this truck today and am hoping to purchase it early in the week. We've asked the seller to fix a few issues (replace a sensor, have the lift inspected) before we hand over the cash. I'd really appreciate any feedback as it's a fairly sizable...
I know some folks who have given work to undocumented workers; it didn't look like anyone was forced to work or held over a barrel. The people who lose most from this ruling may be the undocumented workers themselves. Naturally there will be cases of abusing vulnerable aliens, but offering a...
If Asplundh is making any gang bangers even slightly productive this ruling is probably a net loss to society. That $95 million probably won't be real well spent by the folks who took it. Philosophically, I'm not strongly opposed to employing aliens. For those of you trying to make decent...
Does this make for a more level playing field? I know nothing about Asplundh but I'm guessing that a lot of their competition engages in all sorts of illicit hiring and workplace practices. These smaller companies don't have a $95 million target on them. I'm guessing they decentralized with the...
I'm big on efficiency and am curious about the reasoning behind this. Undoubtedly your one crew is highly productive, but is this also the most efficient arrangement? I'm guessing that you must be turning away a lot of jobs (and therefore spending a lot of time on the job bidding/selection end)...
