So I should probably update my comments here to reflect another thread somewhere on Buzz. After more materials compatibility discussions there, I've now settled on Everclear for ropes - as close as you can get to pure ethanol. In the other thread, someone suggested this (if I could find it I'd...
In a brake bar I think the rope contacts one side on the first bar, then alternates to the other side of the rope on the next and alternates thru the rack. Maybe something in that. Uni alternates too? BDB seems to alternate rope sides as well (don't own one yet).
Whereas at least on the RRP the...
All kidding about scotch aside, I have used a scarab now a couple of times on rigging out bits and pieces on less than sap free rigging rope and haven't yet had jogs in the lowering/ friction. Use of a rap rack in my old days on gritted up rope (glacier and caving) didn't give me the impression...
I had speculated at one time, assisted by single malt, that it might be possible to come up with a mechanical with longer/ larger friction surfaces or a "pre bent" rope path, but with coated surfaces so pitch wouldn't "stick" as much. The single malt speculated that this might be something like...
There's a much closer look at the Art Blackbird here (starting about 2:57 in the video) - upper cam configuration SRT/MRS is slick as heck . . . and they talk about an adjustable cam.
Quizzical addenda: Arbsession's webpage and I think Treetools, say that the BB can be used for two person...
I'm wondering how this new shiny thing would cope with sap or might work with a 3:1 on the tail or not (as per RR collapsing and work arounds v.s. Akimbo). The video shows a falling tail me thinks? I also wonder about pricing - ouch in the pre-orders I've seen so far. Maybe more on pricing in...
Maybe just me but haven't really had a "small job" (esp. stuff like pruning out black knot for example) in the last ten years that has taken me less than 1/2 to maybe even 2/3 of a day when you count travel, cleaning tools etc. so $400.00 is about it for me. Otherwise it's charity work, which...
Rope up in the standing tree to a winch with MA system, set up your hinge on the standing tree and bore cut to a healthy sized strap (listen for any popping - the tree is kinda the same as a leaner with all the added stress on it), tension the MA up and cut strap lower than the back cut so you...
Matias, Re #26 above, DMM had a Kinisi bridge video bit from Augsburg I think it was first alluded to in a Buzz thread on the Kinisi harness where they did failure testing on the bridge itself. There's a link to the video in here somewhere I think. Myself, I'd replace the cam side and the other...
Addenda: Tom/ Mark and all the guys that are way, way more experienced than me - I'v always thought how useful it would be to work on a list of tree species that are known for having week unions/ propensity for falling apart, for the newer folks getting into tree work (and for old farts that...
Matias, glad you're OK and hope you're not all bruised up at minimum. Sometimes it takes a while for this stuff to come out. A 20' whipper is nothing to play with, gravity being a squared dimension. In good light, check your harness (tree gear isn't meant for fall protection just work...
I used to use 95% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) for sap removal from both hardware and ropes - everything - until there was a TreeBuzz discussion on rope material (nylon and polyester) chemical compatibility a couple of years ago. According to the charts, rope textiles don't really like...
Cross post to comments on ZZ and Arbsession Caralink II tether with ISC Apex for SRT - you'd still have the ZZ for DdRT and together with a friction saver (I'm partial to the leather rope sleeves with my ZZ) you have an easy to switch over system, for both SRT ascent and working the tree DdRT...
Spot on.
Ryan, I am curious what you would think of an Arbsession CaraLink II tether with an ISC Apex run on a ZigZag for SRT. Seems it would convert over from SRT for ascent to a normal double rope ZZ setup (maybe now with a friction saver installed) for working the tree pretty easily. I...
I use a white rag and 95% isopropyl alcohol on metal parts or everclear (almost absolute ethanol) on poly/ nylon ropes. There's older threads on sap removal (just use search) on Buzz and commercial sap removers from vendors like Wesspur. But the alcohols are quick and easy on prussik cords and...
Also reported was that lots of cars were parked in all sorts of lots/ malls or something sittin there. Dunno - just spectacular sales figures suddenly for a weekend or so. Musta been huge lineups!
Chinese manufacturers had scads (thousands) of cars parked in fields years ago - their gov't...
Nothing surprises me anymore . .
"There were reports of an unusually high number of Tesla sales in Canada during the weekend when the federal EV rebate program was paused, raising concerns about potential misuse of the program. Specifically, four Tesla-owned dealerships claimed to have sold...
My own two cents would be that the wheels/ axles are now too far forward on the trailer when you have the extra 500 lbs of swing weight out back there. Changes the center of gravity of the trailer. Funny story, I saw the same kind of thing years ago when working commissary for an airline for...
iPhone also has a format setting to save photos as HEIC format - Apples own I think. Some sites don't allow you to upload in this format but just jpg etc. There's a setting no doubt somewhere to change the format of photos you save on your phone model - just google it.
