    Taryl vs the BR600 Bushing

I think Project Farm is excellent. I'm usually impressed with the lengths he goes to with his testing. Pretty scientific for an individual with a YouTube channel.

    Taryl vs the BR600 Bushing

I must have the wrong mental image of this testing. I'm picturing taking roughly 2 dozen brand new string trimmers ($3000-$4000 worth of equipment?) and running each one hundreds if not thousands of hours (keeping up with routine maintenance and repairs along the way?) until each engine fails...

Live helmet cam video for crane operator or for climber training

I don't have a late night Waffle House patron in this fight, but I think having the crane operator see what the climber sees is interesting, maybe more so than a view from the headache ball. Providing the crane operator with a good view of the rigging and cutting progress might be more...

    Body care

I've never owned a skateboard. But back in the day, I loved waterskiing. Good exercise. Slalom and trick skiing. (Wake boards weren't a thing yet.) Old newspaper pic of me from the early 80's.

    Tree Service Ad on Nextdoor

A guy near me posted an ad on Nextdoor for his tree service company. It was peculiar he didn't mention the company name, as it's a good sized company with lots of big equipment. I suppose he's trying to get an extra cut for bringing in leads. Anyhow, one of the two pics showed 2 guys whose PPE...

    @climbingmonkey24, what's up?

    Today....

@Matias, I didn't even know they made ghillie suits for cars. A friend of mine in North Alabama lost 3 cars to trees in the storms a couple of days ago. At least the damage to his house wasn't severe. Best of luck with it. Unlike many, at least you have the skills to deal with it. (Though I...

    OSHA visit

For several years, I was the primary person to respond to OSHA showing up at 20 industrial facilities in my division of the company. The majority of the visits were due to complaints by contractor employees who were angry about something or terminated (some facilities had 1500 contractors on...

    Climbing gloves?

I don't know if these gloves are worth a flip, but for $0.92/pair at Lowe's this morning I thought I'd try a pair. They also had Mechanix Wear Fastfit on sale for $4.17. Got a pair of those to try as well. I wear out a lot of gloves doing outdoor work and I'm not convinced the that high dollar...

    Arts and Crafts

IMHO, that fountain isn't worthy of sitting on that table.

    Trees on buildings

Neat idea, but the execution doesn't work for me. The juxtaposition of the organicly shaped cutout against the geometric glass box is too incongruous. Because I'm a caver, it looks more like a cross sectional map of a cave. If the portion in the side of the building was decked out with cave...

Please help me choose the right products

Correct. I bought an RRP, thinking it may be less costly in the long run, since no hitch cords are needed.

    Tips and Tricks

I'm replacing yet another crosstie retaining wall thingy for a friend. I like nice accurate chainsaw cuts, whether they're straight, miters or compound miters. Since it's difficult to mark crossties, I've been using white duct tape to mark the cut lines - use one edge of the tape to mark the cut...

    Truck tire chains

This thread reminded me of a (rare) snowy day many years ago. Our plant manager shows up at the plant with chains on the rear tires of his front wheel drive car. Yeah, he was pretty much an idiot. No clue how he got put in charge of a billion dollar facility with 400 employees.

    Hung Pine Tree

A real outside-the-box idea that requires a different skill set - I have a few caver friends that are into micro blasting for breaking rock blocking entry into potential new caves. Though it would take a different approach since the properties of wood are vastly different than stone, I wonder if...

    Fatal Towing Accident

If it's a regular vehicle and the view obstruction isn't a deal breaker, raising the hood on the stuck vehicle makes a good protective shield for this scenario.

    Climbing gloves?

Personally, I keep a glove clip on my saddle and wear sturdy gloves. If I need dexterity, I put my gloves in the clip. I've never lost gloves out of the clip. Works for me, though some may not like to donn/doff gloves.

    Fatal Towing Accident

Driver of the stuck truck was killed when the receiver hitch on the pulling vehicle failed. I believe this was in the Huntsville, AL area within the last day.

    Hung Pine Tree

After seeing it today, I felt good about going with my original plan. Set a line in the tree it hung on, climbed, dropped the limbs. The crown was kinda hung in another tree, dropped most of it in one piece. Then cut the smaller side of the fork off, so the spar settled into the rope I had...
