Based on your information, I would say the cramps come from your muscles being static. You may want to try and stretch your wrists, forearms before, during and after. figure 8 for removal
I have seen figure 8's used as a secondary control. For instance while speed lining. Attach via second rope to control the speed of wood on speed line. You still have to let it run if big. The 8 doesnt take the full load.- TackleTree
